I started my unofficial business ownership journey at the age of 10 with 3 friends ready to conquer the candy distribution industry. We each contributed $10 to the Partnership to buy $40 of inventory (candy) and set out to open our mobile candy shop at our Elementary School.
After our first sold-out day, we decided to reinvest all profits in the business to buy more inventory. We were an instant success and after tripling our money we decided to each take a $10 distribution so we could buy what we wanted! Unfortunately, we were ultimately put out of business for conducting an "illegal business activity", as it was against school policy for students to sell candy, LOL!
So after my informal introduction to business ownership, I learned a few lessons that still ring true today:
Fast forward to today.........
Although I was a child in the candy business, those lessons learned are some of the business foundational elements of today's businesses. As a licensed Tax Attorney with a Masters of Law in Taxation and extensive experience in working with hundreds of small business owners across the country, I have been able to effectively put my formal and informal knowledge of business structuring and tax planning know-how to add value to the bottom line of my clients.
1. You must first enter into a legal business
2. If you decide to have partners make sure business goals are clear AND
3. Reinvesting profits can have a drastic impact on the success of your business.
